Review - VJ's Art Bar →
New review online now for VJ’s Art Bar, here’s the summery:
Otherwise known as Victor J’s, this glossy little café bar is indeed very arty, with lovely décor and a nice ambience. Unfortunately a trendy veneer can’t hide the fact that it’s a very small and cramped bar, ok if you get find a seat but hopeless otherwise. There’s pretty much no chance you could get a pram or wheelchair in there,...

Koko still Koko but now Vahe Bar (From York Press) →
…Koko has been rebranded as Vahe Bar – but perhaps you haven’t heard the explanation? The alteration was a somewhat unfortunate one, certainly done reluctantly rather than willingly. It appears that, although owner Vahe Nersessian opened his bar six years ago, in the old Beer Ritz shop, he never copyrighted the Koko name. As a result, he says, he unwittingly allowed some likeminded chap to...

Thomas’s pub in Museum Street to reopen (From York... →
A CITY-CENTRE pub that was turned into a Mexican restaurant is going back to its former use. Thomas’s, in Museum Street, York, reopened as Mojito in December 2010, but the move proved unsuccesful. It is now being reverted back into a bar, and will reopen next Thursday.
Another one to add to the review list then, will be interesting to see how it goes under new ownership, the Mexican Restaurant...

Review - Cross Keys →
New review online now for Cross Keys, here’s the summery:
Another Nicholson owned pub for York centre who continually prove to be one of the best pub companies for beautiful buildings, attention to detail, character, good ale and quality affordable food. The Cross Keys is no exception, especially with a recent refurbishment which leaves the traditional Victorian pub looking authentic and...

Review - Golden Lion →
New review now online for Golden Lion, here is the summery:
The Golden Lion is a pleasantly turned out but pretty straight forward traditional pub. With a reasonable range of beers and a nice light and spacious open environment it only suffers a little from a generic corporate feel, the best we could do to describe it is standard, nothing letting it down, but nothing too special either. Worth a...

The Future of Lendal Cellars... →
Having just had the rumours confirmed that the upstairs of Lendal Cellars is indeed to be turned into a Jamie Oliver Restaurant I’m actually more concerned with the future of the pub itself. All this report mentions is that the pub is to remain as part of the Restaurant, not very clear. Also no mention of the fact it’s owned by Greene King, have they sold it all off to Oliver?
Lendal...
