Search...
We’ve now installed a new search bar feature on the website, so if you’re a little overwhelmed searching alphabetically through our reviewed pubs you can now simply type in what you’re after. Technology eh!

Hosting Down
Few image issues on the website at the moment, this is because the hosting I was using has gone down. I’m relocating all my image data at the moment, but need to update all my links, which may take a few days. So for now there may be a few broken links and things throughout the site but I will have it all back up and running soon.

Renovation for the Nation
York pubs seem to be going refurbishment crazy this year, maybe a sign that recession is behind us now, either that or competition in York is so high there’s really no place for slackers (as our reviews will clearly point out!) So added to my list for the next review session in May is firstly The Whippet Inn, formally The Yorkshire Hussar, a beautiful pub that suffered greatly from poor...

Keeping Up to Date
As you all may be aware we like to keep things nice and fresh at Within the Walls, revisiting pubs after refurbishments or management changes and generally working our way round the centre of York in an attempt to keep all our reviews updated. In this vein we’ve now added a review date to all reviews so if we haven’t yet managed to revisit or you think our review is a bit out of touch...

Still Here...
We’ve been a little slow over the last few months at working on reviewing the remaining pubs, this is mainly due to lack of funds after Christmas and the general weather of Winter. I will be aiming over the next few weeks to work through my backlog of reviews getting them ready to publish, but I also need to get some nice shots of the pubs for those reviews too and obviously said Winter...

A Brief History of Some York Pub Names
As some of you may or may not be aware for my day job I work as a Graphic Designer for a major signage company in Leeds, we do a lot of work in the Pub Industry. Well recently we received a new book called The Dictionary of Pub Names, basically bought to assist us in Pictorial design, and the Pub Geek in me couldn’t resist researching a few York pubs and what I found was very fascinating, well if...

Thwaites buys Judges Lodgings (from York Press)
YORK pub and hotel, Judges Lodgings, has been bought by Daniel Thwaites plc. The 14 bedroom Judges Lodgings, based in Lendal, will expand the company’s Thwaites Inns of Character portfolio. Thwarted said it plans to redevelop the historic cellar bar and outdoor terraces, but in the interim the property will continue to trade as a townhouse hotel. Antony Spencer, managing director of...

The eternal pub landlord →
Here’s a new Blog that I recommend you check out, the interesting musing of an eternal pub landlord, namely Jason from The Three Tuns. Who is also currently refurbishing The Little John to be reopened as the Blue Boar before Christmas. A fascinating insight into the pub industry in York.
